JCDecaux, the operators of Dublin Bikes, have announced today that the membership fees for the popular bike hire service are doubling from next month. This comes at the same time as the number of bikes and bike stations is being drastically increased.

The current 44 bike stations are due to be joined by a further 58 locations, bringing the total to 102. And the number of bikes available is raising from 550 to 1,500.

The increased membership fees still represent tremendous value for money, as you can still use a bike for up to 30 minutes for free. Indeed, 95% of all Dublin Bikes journeys are under 30 minutes, and so €20 for a year’s usage of a bike seems like a good deal to me!
