Great Dublin Bike Ride

The inaugural Great Dublin Bike Ride takes place on Sunday 13th September 2015 at 8.00am. The ride has both 60km and 100km routes that both start and end in Smithfield.

I’m not taking part in the ride myself, but I am volunteering on the day. Along with all the other volunteers, race marshals from Cycling Ireland, Gardai, and security people there will be a cast of thousands (okay, maybe hundreds) working to help the ride take place safely and successfully.

Dublin City Council are currently consulting on plans to make the city centre a more healthy and pleasant place to shop and work.

They want to make the city more appealing to shoppers, workers and tourists through the introduction of more pedestrianised streets, and the removal of multi-lane roads choked with fast-moving traffic.

How to pack a small tool kit for your bag

It’s often useful to carry a few tools around with you, just in case you need to perform a few road-side repairs or adjustments to your bike.

Many people use a small saddle bag to store a few tools, but I’ve chosen instead to use an old pencil case. It sits at the bottom of my pannier bag wherever I go, and is big enough to carry all the tools I might need while out and about.
